John Baskerville designed the Mrs. Eaves font. It was firstly released in 1957. The name of the font belongs to the wife of John Baskerville. His name was Sarah Eaves.
Later in 1996, Zuzana Licko redesigned this traditional font type. This font has high contrast because of its thick and thin strokes variety. At that time it faced lots of criticism because it is not easy to understand/read.
Then Licko decided to overcome the problems that occur in this font. Licko reduced the high contrast in that way so it doesn’t affect the lightness and openness of the font. Licko also made changes in x-height with keeping in mind the width shouldn’t be increasing.
